DAMO SUZUKI'S NETWORK
Manuel Agnelli _ _ voice plan, synthesizer
Xabier Iriondo _ chit. electricity, Maha Metak Enrico Gabrielli _ sax, bass clarinet _ Cristiano Calcagno battery
DAMO SUZUKI When he left the ANC after the album Future Days, the figure of Damo Suzuki was already so revered that the iconoclast par excellence John Lydon (Rotten and the Sex Pistols) is proposed as his replacement. Mark E Smith, the other major dislike of the English punk had dedicated a song ('I am Damo Suzuki') and Can are cited as an influence and a myriad group of the most beloved groups of Joy Division and Julian Cope (Can-head by its very definition) to get through to Radiohead Blonde Redhead. James Murphy, producer, remixer supreme leader of LCD Soundsystem and proudly shows off the t-shirt FUTURE DAYS in dozens of promotional photos and the first concert of Can is cited in the text of 'Loosing My Edge' as one of the most important moments of rock history (just the beginning of the song says 'I was there at the first Can show in Cologne'). not easy to explain the reason for this estimate, or to define in words the music of Can. You just listen without prejudice and their discography is revealed as a vast mine of great music and seminal ideas, in the sense that their intuitions are really the seeds from which sprouted thousands of records, and group compositions.
Their strength was a collective and an extraordinary ability to improvise never matched. Improvisation or in the words of the Damo 'instant composition', in fact, is the heart of the music of Can. It 'still a kind of improvisation that has little to do with jazz and more experimental side from the pages of Jimi Hendrix and the Velvet Underground and some points of contact with the joints of the early psychedelic Pink Floyd.
three records have created the legend above: Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi and FUTURE DAYS. Damo Suzuki is the voice and the face of these discs and its place in rock history is engraved with fire. Today
Damo is a wanderer of the music: it moves from city to city, from nation to nation, from continent to continent, supported by a network of musicians and fans.
... in the words of Damo Suzuki:
I create time and space of time with local sound carriers, which means that always travel alone. I have several sound carriers and the music is different. My network is everywhere, and its goal is to learn to share power. This is my antidote to violence.
compose music on time and the method is called 'instant composition' and each time is a new experience for carriers on the stage and the audience. I have a sound network of carriers around the world and my tour is the Never Ending Tour. Every year I play with 400 players in five different continents.
New and old is not the creation of music. There's only good music and bad music.
What I do is very casual and is not comparable to anything. Do a lot of weight in the creative process and no product. We serve a daily menu for a public open-minded who likes to travel with his head.
